About MCMW
McMinnville Weather was initially made as a confined local
weather research site related to the location (NW Oregon) in 2004.
Through out a 3 year span, McMinnville Weather.com expanded to serve
the Pacific Northwest. Now that's a big jump from a small locale, to
a big scale region. Once 2007 arrived, McMinnville Weather
experience fatal technical issues, which went unresolved for the
next two years.
McMinnville Weather proved popular, especially the Weather Blog,
which was added on to the site as a 50/50 option. With the success,
more features were brought up for addition.
In 2010, we are expanding the use of our
research and idea's into a non profit organization that would
cooperate with The National Weather Service and serve as an
independent weather research and education collaborative effort. We
also plan on partnering with Oregon State Universities Atmospheric
Science Program as well as George Taylor's Applied Climate LLC. Well
use this to complete research programs and get us closer to our
organizational goal of providing accurate and detailed forecast and
weather warnings to NW Oregon and have the nation follow in our
footsteps. We will also work 24/7 providing observational weather
reports during storms and events.
About the Creator
Grant LeBlanc
Born in 1988, I grew up with passion and desires. At the
time, I wasn't sure what would interest me and take me to that next
level in life, but boy did that change in first grade. Thanks to my
first grade teacher (Mrs. Rima), she implemented a weather course.
At first, I hadn't a clue to how weather works and what exactly
weather was in the first place. At the time, it was mid to late
fall, so the weather was at least, very active at that time, and,
very interesting none the less.
Through out my
school career, I took stride in going out on my own, whether that
going to the Library and checking out advanced Atmospheric Science
books or online, I continued to find ways to learn, and to broaden
my knowledge in the subject. I joined the American Meteorological
Society (Oregon Chapter) in 1999 and have been inspired and have
learned tremendously from local and highly respected professional
Meteorologist's Jim Little and Mark Nelsen. I also look up to George
Taylor (Former Oregon State Climatologist/ Now a Climatologist for
Applied Climate LLC), who has been very supportive in my work
(Submitting my first Winter Weather Prediction on the Oregon Climate
Services page in 2005)
In 2007, I
enrolled in Penn States Meteorology course via World Campus. I've
taken 2 years of courses total, with intent on furthering my career
and knowledge through education in the near future when I can afford
it. I intend on going for my masters and transferring to OSU's
Atmospheric Science's program.
My goals for
this website are clearly for weather research, finding better ways
to accurately forecast events here in the Northwest. Broaden
education to kids who have interest in weather or science in
general, support them and offer them tools to help them in a
possible career in Meteorology. As well as support for the National
Weather Service and Oregon State University's Atmospheric Science
program.
